Step-by-Step Guide: Installing Artificial Grass on Concrete or Tiles

From Grey Patio to Green Oasis in Record Time

Picture that dull terrace, covered in dated 1980s tiles, radiating scorching heat in midsummer. That was the reality for many of our clients before deciding to act. Replacing tiles is heavy, dusty and expensive work. The alternative? Turning it into a soft, vibrant retreat in under 24 hours with no dust at all.

Why installing over hard flooring is the smarter option

It's the fastest, most affordable way to redesign your outdoor space. Since the base (concrete or tiles) is already level, you skip all the digging, geotextile membrane and soil compacting.

Key Installation Steps

  • 1. Check the drainage: The surface already drains through a natural slope towards the drains. Clean the drains thoroughly and make sure they aren't blocked. If the grass sits on a terrace with existing slopes, water won't be an issue thanks to our models' built-in drainage.
  • 2. Layout and cutting: Roll out the turf, making sure all the pile faces the same direction (ideally towards the main viewing area). Cut with a sharp utility knife from the backing side.
  • 3. Smart gluing: Don't spread adhesive across the whole terrace. You only need to secure the perimeter with two-part polyurethane glue, or double-sided tape if it's a rental property. The weight will keep it in place.
  • 4. The finishing touch: sand and brushing. Spread a little silica sand and give it a thorough brush against the grain. This simple step lifts the fibres and gives the whole space weight and a natural look.

And that's it. You'll find the hardest part wasn't the installation, but having put up with those grey tiles for so many years.
